Escape Plan 3 - The Extractors
After security expert Ray Breslin (Stallone) is hired to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a Hong Kong tech mogul from a formidable Latvian prison, Breslin’s girlfriend is also captured. Now he and his team must pull off a deadly rescue mission to confront their sadistic foe and save the hostages before time runs out.
In an interview for this film Stallone is quoted as “We wanted this film to be a throwback to the great hard-core action films”, and the director adhered to this hope quite well.
The daughter of a very rich mogul from Hong Kong visits a rundown area of America hoping to run a business. On arriving back at the airport to leave all hell breaks loose and she is kidnapped. It all links back to Ray Breslin and rather than breaking out of a prison, he and his team find themselves having to break in.
Some of the film sequences are slightly clichéd such as each hero fights a nemesis but this kind of action film demands that. The fight set-pieces are very well choreographed especially the ones featuring Max Zhang (IP Man 3) who throws out class moves some involving with an umbrella! There are very good bloody kills and everyone will want their own DeRosa (Bautista) gun.
A solid cast all round – Stallone rolls along as ever, Bautista steals his scenes and Devon Sawa (Final Destination) does a good turn as the big bad. I think Curtis Jackson is not used very much as only seems to be a bit part in this film.
A running time of just over 90 minutes goes by very quickly as the action keeps coming and is done very slickly. This is way better than the second instalment in the series and allegedly brings the trilogy to an end but with Stallone never say never.
I can see the Director and the actors’ working together again as it shows they enjoyed making this.
