Cut Off (AKA Abgeschnitten)
Released in 2019
Cut Off (English subs)

Coroner Paul Herzfeld finds a capsule buried deep in the head of a heavily mutilated corpse, containing a phone number and single word: the name of his daughter.
And soon the nerve-jangling suspense never stops….

Let the games begin.

Most movie goers will know this director (Christian Alvart) from the Sci/fi Horror “Pandorum” in 2009, Cut Off is his latest feature based on a bestseller novel by Sebastian Fitzek, who also has a cameo.

The opening follows Linda (Fritzi Bauer) who inadvertently stumbles across a body whilst avoiding certain individuals. This links to Professor Herzfeld (Bleibtreu) who is being questioned about an assault he was involved in, detailed in flashbacks including a disagreement with his daughter, as she walks away, that’s where the professor’s problems start.

Conducting another autopsy, he finds a capsule in the head of the deceased.....with his daughter’s name on and her number, from there the film is a brutal affair with very graphic scenes and violence.

The main characters Linda and Paul are thrown together to help solve the clues and mystery they are being thrown. There are some dark comedic moments between the two especially when Linda has to do an impromptu autopsy.

Cut Off is very thrilling and the actors including the support all make an excellent account of their characters. It is also good to see a foreign language film that keeps the tension ramped up and keeps you glued for the next scenes.

A brutal and suspense laden thriller throughout!
